Cookies on this site

As a WordPress blog Site Eagle uses cookies.  Cookies are tiny data files stored on your computer used to remember things like your login details. For example, when you tick “remember me” logging into an account, it is a cookie that remembers you so that you don’t have to log in every time. On this blog a cookie will be placed if you choose to comment, the remember your details so that you don’t have to type them every time.  Also, if you use the search box then a cookie will remember your previous searches so that you won’t have to retype those.

This free WordPress site also comes complete with stats which will set a cookie to determine unique clicks.  This will show the difference between one person visiting your site five times, and five people visiting your site once.  It allows you to determine whether your site has been browsed by one user, or multiple users, and which posts are most popular.  As a part of these stats it also tells us which country the visitor was from.

Third party cookies

As a part of the Terms of Service for this free WordPress blog “Automattic reserves the right to display advertisements on your blog unless you have purchased an Ad-free Upgrade or a VIP Services account.”  Site Eagle is not serving these adverts, and therefore do not know what cookies they use.  If you would like more information about these adverts if they appear then click “about these ads”.*

*As part of a cookie audit on this site it revealed that the ads may in fact be served by Double Click and Google Adsense.  Here is some specific information about the cookies used by Google, and how you can opt out  http://www.google.co.uk/policies/technologies/ads/ – this is a result of an audit on a specific day, when one advert appeared.  I would  still recommend that you click “about these ads” if you see an ad appear during your visit – as I have already said, I am not serving these ads and have not control over if and when they appear.

In order to be a useful tool Site Eagle may on occasion provide links to external websites.  I cannot be held responsible for the cookies used by third party websites, if you would like to know what cookies these sites use you will need to consult their individual site’s cookie policy.
